Calida

Calida’s legs were nothing but a blur pushing her through the thick forest with speed and agility. The she-wolf had locked onto a rabbit who was doing all it could to escape the deadly predator following close behind it. The two weaved through the trees and leapt over the fallen branches as the leaves crunched under their paws and flew up behind them.
Calida was so fixed on the rabbit that she had not yet noticed a dark figure not far ahead of her. After giving chase for a few more meters something caught her eye and she glanced up for a brief moment. The rabbit took a sharp turn to the left as Calida came to a skidding halt, kicking up leaves and dirt all around. Her pale green eyes gazed upon a large male standing only feet from her.

Enzo

Everything was quiet, just how Enzo liked. That was until a flurry of sound and a sudden addition of company entered the scene. It was apparent that the stranger he’d suddenly been faced with was chasing prey, prey that was lucky enough to get past him. The she wolf seemed to stop then, not pursuing it any further. He raised a brow at her, seemingly unaffected by her presence. He- almost sarcastically- stepped back a few feet, cocking his head.
”You right there?” He asked, tone firm and words laced with the slightest hint of anger. He wasn’t used to company of any sort, and over time each wolf he faced had seemed to blur into each other, making one giant memory. He was never around anyone long enough to remember them, and didn’t find any real reason to either. He cleared his throat, awaiting a reply, unimpressed look upon his face.

Calida

Calida paused for a moment and looked around, for some reason she expected the wolf to show far more aggression than he did. After realizing that she was in no imminent danger, her mind refocused on her failed hunt. She shot her head to the side and let out a disappointed huff when she saw nothing but foliage. She defeatedly sat down and relaxed her tense muscles as her attention turned back to the wolf.
”Could be better…” she commented with ears drawn back and head held low. In all her time of being a loner Calida had never been faced with such a situation, running into another wolf during a hunt. It also occurred to her that she had never seen this male before which tugged at her curiosity.
”My apologies for nearly barreling into you, I get a bit carried away sometimes.” Her expression was neutral and quite relaxed, and her tone showed little emotion.

Enzo

Golden eyes watched the pale she-wolf as she calculated her loss. It seemed she was angered about losing the rabbit, and slightly embarrassed. He looked down on her, brows firmly placed over judging eyes. He curled up his lip slightly, barring stained teeth. His gaze briefly followed in the direction the rabbit went, before returning to the fellow loner wolf.
”Well isn’t that a shame.” He said, words carrying poison with every syllable. There was a cheeky spark in his orbs, blindingly charming.

At her apology, he rolled his eyes.
”Don’t bloody apologize to me. Apologize to the rabbit who's probably dying slowly from a heart attack.” He whispered, cynical smirk taking over his lips. He could imagine it’s small, frail heart convulsing, imploding inside it’s small chest. No doubt the scare she’d given it would cause it’s death. He was tempted to track it down, an easy meal, it would be. But he did not, he merely stared at the she-wolf with half lidded eyes, embers burning in his sockets.
”Getting carried away will only get you killed.” He said, leaning in dangerously close to her, breath flowing over her muzzle.

Calida

Calida’s ears perked at the male’s words; there was a great probability that the rabbit would soon collapse as the life slowly seeped from its body. Her instincts told her to run off and track down the creature, but her curiosity pinned her down and kept her eyes glues onto the mysterious wolf. His eyes burned as if there was a golden fire smoldering in them, who was this male? Calida lifted her brow as he leaned in and the scent of his breath flooded her nose.
“I’m not that easy to kill,” she hissed with an audacious grin. The she-wolf gently huffed in his face before standing up and sauntering away a few feet. She then turned back around and asked with her head slightly tilted, “How about we make a deal? If you tell me your name, then i will give you half of my rabbit, sound good?” Calida’s demeanor had a sort of bold confidence to it, almost as if she was daring the male to accept her offer.

Enzo

A slightly amused scoff escaped his maw, singular brow raising as the other remained shaded over his eye. This she-wolf had guts, something oddly charming to him. He had no desire to humour her, but he did have to admire her choice to repel his threat.
”Many say that, m’dear, but you won’t know until you’re on the verge of death with someone’s paw crushing your windpipe.” He said the words slowly, darkly. Before his whole demeanor changed in a millisecond, he returned to his usual unimpressed stance, eyes raking over the female in an almost creepy way.

At her offer- or challenge, should he assume- he scoffed yet again, circling her,
”You don’t need to bribe me for my name. It’s Enzo,” he then added, ”and you are?” He asked, smirking at her, head tilted slightly away, pupils small and focused solely on her facial features.

Calida

”Calida. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Enzo,” she said with a small amount of sarcasm lingering in her tone. Her soft pale coat brushed up against his as she trotted past him, which oddly caused chills to travel down her thin body. The darker fur along her spine stood erect but she ignored it and continued on her way.
She lifted her muzzle as her pink nose sniffed the air in an attempt to recapture the scent of the rabbit. She suddenly dropped her head down and began jogging straight ahead, tail held high and ears pulled forward. After about a minute of tracking she came upon the dying creature; guilt sweeping over her as she watched it take gasping breaths. Calida quickly clamped her jaws around its delicate neck and ended its suffering. The lifeless body hung from her mouth and swayed back and forth as she strolled away from the scene.
”You can either join in now or wait till i'm finished with my half,” she barked as she lowered herself and began plucking the fur off of her kill.

Enzo

The dark wolf nodded, replaying her name in his mind for no particular reason. His eyes watched as she moved past him, but his body did not follow his gaze, and he sat sideways glancing at her as she began after the rabbit. He finally turned, slowly, tail twitching as he watched her through the foliage. She found the rabbit and killed it, and he smiled to himself. Death was such an artistic notion in his mind. Watching it unfold, take place amused him, and so he slowly slunk toward the scene, looking down on the rabbit in her jaws.

As she spoke, his ears flickered toward her. He raised a brow at her sudden change in attitude. What had once been subtle and almost cautious was now confident and almost aggressive. He found it funny, actually, how wolves moods could just… change. She looked cute, trying to show she wasn’t intimidated by him. Almost made him want to show her how intimidating he could be…

With a small shake of his head, he straightened his posture and began after her,
”How kind of you.” He stated, looking at her darkly before slinking past her light form, trotting in front of her, nose to the ground as though he was looking for something.

Calida

Calida had begun to eat the front half of the delicious rabbit, stopping every few bites to lick the blood from her muzzle. She noticed his eyes on her and that he was sniffing the ground, but she decided to ignore it. As long as he didn’t get in between her and the prey, he could do whatever he wanted.
After a few minutes Calida finished her portion of the kill and rose to her feet, leaving the rest for Enzo. She sat a few feet away and leaned to her side as her long hind leg scratched at her shoulder. The female gave her pelt a quick shake, removing some of the debris from her long cream fur, before plopping down onto her side. Her pale green eyes scanned over the male, taking in the markings of his coat and any scars that she could see.
Breaking the stare, she rolled onto her back and stretched her body as an arm extended forward, pink paw pad facing up toward the sky.

Enzo

She seemed unusually relaxed around him. As she lay down, he frowned slightly, not expecting her to have been so calm as to do that. He smiled smugly at her before snatching up his half of the rabbit, downing it with a few harsh chomps. A few spurts of blood ran from his mouth, one hitting the pale she-wolf on her ribs. He did nothing until he swallowed, and once the rabbit was gone, he chuckled at the vibrant red splattered across her dramatically opposite pale coat.
”You’ve got a little… something.” He said, motioning to his work. He shook his head and turned away slightly, eyes taking in the detail of the land around them. He’d made it a habit to always imprint where he was into his mind, so he could remember it, and return if he wanted.

He licked his lips, just as Calida had done, and clawed in the dirt. His form turned back to her, and he squinted,
”Why did you offer to give me half your rabbit? I did nothing to aid you in killing it.” He said, voice low as he approached Calida and sat close by.

Calida

Calida hadn’t noticed the spot of blood on her until he pointed it out. She looked to her side and a faint laugh escaped her throat.
“Some table manners you have,” she teased.

The female then rolled back onto her stomach after Enzo asked about the rabbit. She tilted her head at him, thinking of her response.
“Well, because you didn’t attack me or go after my rabbit. You could have overpowered me and taken my kill, leaving me famished, but instead you engaged in conversation. I respect that, us loners live a hard life as it is, we don’t need to make it harder for each other,” cooed the she-wolf. After a moment she snickered and looked to him with a witty smile.
“So i guess i was just rewarding your behavior, good boy,” she playfully mocked.

Enzo

He gave Calida a testing look at her statement, and nodded, as though proud of his own piggish eating tendencies. They’d been with him for as long as he could remember, and he didn’t see anything wrong with them in actual fact. He licked his lips again, though it did nothing to rid his muzzle of the dripping blood.
He didn’t look at her as she spoke, his eyes were only focused on a few trees a little ways away from him. One ear was facing her, showing that he was still listening. Her words shocked him a little, it was not common- as far as he knew- for a loner to want to share their meal, especially when they had to rely solely on themselves to pump their bodies with energy from kills. Enzo knew very well how insurmountable a successful hunt could seem when there had been many failures to catch food in a row.

His head cocked oddly to the side at her last comment, and his brows knitted downward into a frown. His mouth however was tugged into a devious smile, barely able to be seen on his dark coat and in the shadows cast by his cheeks.
”You’re rather generous… You don’t even know me, you don’t know what I could have done to you. You may not seem scared, but I guarantee if I were a wolf currently in the mood to make a meal out of you, you’d think differently.” He stated, face stoic, then he wittingly added, with a smirk, ”I guess it’s your lucky day though, I am in no mood to hunt you down.”

Calida

Calida raised a brow and gave a short laugh at the male’s comment. She rose to her feet and faced him directly.
“Trust me, you would not like me much as a meal, I would be too tough for you,” she barked with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

The female noticed that it was beginning to grow dark and decided that it was time to part with Enzo. “Well, i’ll be on my way,” she said as she began to walk in the opposite direction. The female turned her head and asked, “How does meeting here tomorrow sound?”

Enzo

A brow was cocked at her statement, his eyes boring into hers. She was feisty. He liked that. He was drawn to her in some way, and it felt weird but right at the same time. He liked how independent she was, and how she’d taken his comments with a grace about her that told him she could hold her own.
”Oh I bet you would.” He replied, eyes looking away and a smug expression plastered to his dark face.
Enzo nodded to her, turning the opposite way. He should be off too, he had things to do. Being a loner was no easy work and he needed to ensure he’d have a meal set for the next few days and a safe place to sleep. When she spoke again, he looked at her over his shoulder. Would they meet again? Enzo didn’t know if he wanted to, but there was no doubt he’d be thinking of her if they didn’t. And he didn’t want to be thinking of her while he was trying to get stuff done.
”Alright, Calida. See you then.” He said, voice deep and gruff. And with that, he darted off into the bushes, disappearing as quickly as he’d made himself known to the pale she-wolf.
Summary: Calida and Enzo meet for the first time and it certainly is an interesting interaction.
